This is a small scale model demonstrating the shelving system I had designed for a retail space. The system was centered around a material study of polypropylene cording that I chose to utilize and integrate with wood to create a versatile and adjustable shelving system for retail spaces.
The system was inspired by a peg board creating a system directly attached to the walls, flooring and ceiling of the retail space. There would be mutiple length dowels available to the visual merchandisers to customize the size of the stores shelving according to the products in stock with other options of hooks and other hardware fixtures to fit in the perforations and tie polypropylene cording as desired.
The simplicity of this system allows it to be utilized in various ways. The dowel and cording system can create shelving units, furniture, and hanging racks to have complete control as to how the retail space would be shaped. Materials could be interchanged to fit the perforations creating variations of desired aesthetics to go along with the peg board system.
