Fading Light - Andrew Claflin

Best of Show winner and one of my larger abstracts. It resides in my entry way and is a family favorite but I am not too attached that I wont let it go.  The pics below are various views and close ups.  As you can see, the texture is obvious and accents the subject matter.  Perfect for that taller space like in an entry way or great room.

Fading Light.  I had been working on a few water colors for my own study and the images were of low light conditions in the woods.  So that in mind I wanted to hint at a failing or fading light peeking through the trees.  That kind of out of focus color as it is refracted a million ways bouncing through the trees.
I would say that seasonally speaking this hits more in the spring or winter - or late fall at the least.  Either way - it evokes the same feelings as the other series of paintings.  Trying to capture the feeling I experienced when seeing these for real in the woods.  Isn't art so much fun?  The images came from Fourtown Lake in the BWCA.  The dense forest up there was highlighted by glimpses of blue (lake).  Add to your bucket list a trip to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area.  That said this is framed in matching stained cedar and looks great.

size 18x43
Currently on display at the Maple Grove Arts Center - won best of show! YES! As you can see the cedar frame (stained) has been added.
Nice tight miters and a soothing stain choice for the frame color.  ready to hang in your home.
Here are three pieces of mine at the show.  Fading Light (left), Propitiation (center top) and Flamenco.
