The ones that get you up in the morning

Tanzania

On the slopes of the Ngorongoro crater at an altitude of 1.700 meter these workers pick the berries of the 100 % Arabica coffee trees that makes Tanzanian coffee famous. The pickers are predominantly women. They get up early in the morning to climb the estate's truck that make rounds in the neighbouring villages to pick up the workers for the day and then they enter the fields to work below the leaves and branches of the coffee trees. Up to 400 pickers are active in this estate's fields during harvest season.

If you are one of those people that get a depresso and hit the snooze button when you don't have any coffee you have a lot to thank these people for because they are the ones that get you up in the morning.

Coffee production is divided into 5 stages:
1) Picking, 2) Sorting, 3) Pulping, 4) Fermentation, 5) Drying.
