Typekit Ampersand Wallpaper Series #2
About this project
This is the second in a series of projects in collaboration with the Typekit team. The projects' goal is to creatively use the ampersand symbol from Typekit fonts available both in kits and synced fonts.

For this second project, I focused on a single font, which I found intriguing: Fusaka Standard.
I really liked the rounded shape of the glyph, and it reminded me of some of the japanese animation characters, such as Totoro.

However, after experimenting with the shape a lot in 3D, I ended up using the shape in a way that does not show the original 2D outline very clearly (except in the first rendition below), but I liked the morphology of the characters which unfolded from the work so I kept working in that direction.

This second project with the ampersand contains three different characters: "The sage", "The commander" and "The mystic".

After the different renditions, you'll find pointers to resources I used.

I used Cinema 4D for creating the characters and then Photoshop for the final compositing and texturing.
