Educational kit- This kit is designed to empower and inspire kindergartners to bring
out the little hero in them to fight for our planet in their daily lives.
Singapore has limited resources but an increasing population - every citizen needs to play a part so that our government will not have difficulty providing for the whole country. Singapore has also came up with the sustainable development plan with the hope of achieving a sustainable society by 2030 and it is up to each Singaporean to play his part. The government is focusing on environmental education in the vision of raising a generation that lives in a sustainable manner.
Empirical studies show that good habits start from young. This project hopes to focus on educating the youngest possible age group in Singapore’s educational path – kindergartners. “Little Heroes for Earth” aims to help kindergartners develop sustainable living habits through storytelling and various hands-on activities. It is an educational kit consisting of four storybook folders, a teacher’s guide, one wall mural, a brochure for parents and sticker pack for the children. The whole creative direction will be colourful and fun-looking to make kids realise that saving the earth is actually a fun and simple process.
The project started with a lot of experimentation before actually embarking on the actual illustrations and designs. There was a lot of sketching to be done as because it consists of 4 storybooks and it was a time consuming process. It took a lot of patience and perseverance to complete this project but it was worth it because it is something that is close to my heart and I have always had hope that my skills as a graphic designer can be used to help educate children in the area of our environment, among others. There are also many possible areas for this book to be developed, like expanding the storybook series and developing a website which is why the project was chosen because there is actually a possibility of continual implementation
