Urban Best Practices Area at World Expo 2010 in Shanghai
Located in the Urban Best Practices Area at Shanghai World Expo 2010, this exhibition showcases Montreal's innovative and sustainable urban project, the Complexe Environnemental Saint-Michel (CESM). Once a quarry, then the third largest dump in North America, the CESM is being transformed into an urban park that combines green spaces as well as recreational, cultural and ecological institutions. This long process of revitalization undertaken by the Ville de Montréal is "repairing" and embellishing the landscape as well as allowing Montrealers to use this large space for various activities.
Along with a dynamic projection on a screen made of hundreds of moving pistons, the final area of the exhibition gives the visitors a lot of information about the CESM revitalization project and the city of Montreal. Backlit tables and suspended cubes recall the shape of the "pixel-animated" screen. Each of the three tables explores both the CESM and the city of Montreal under 3 angles: the history of the CESM, green spaces, sustainability and biodiversity and a dynamic culture in a creative city.
