DexEcneph Encephalitis Case Reporter

DexEnceph Encephalitis Case Reporter is a tool to help clinicians and laboratory staff quickly and easily report cases of suspected or confirmed HSV encephalitis to researchers at the University of Liverpool's Brain Infections Group.

If they know of a case of suspected HSV encephalitis, all they have to do is launch the app and hit "report suspected case", then our researchers take care of the rest.

The app sends an alert to our research team, who will make contact with on-site research staff at the patient's location. All they have to do is tell us the hospital and ward where the patient is. No need to share confidential patient details, and no hassle for them.

A big advantage of using app technology, is that if the submission of an alert is not possible due to lack of network connection, the app can run in the background and attempt to re-submit that alert at a time interval decided by the user – so no need for them to remember to check back next time they’re in an area covered by Wi-Fi or mobile data connectivity.

Interface design and front-end development was carried out by Matt Smith, and back-end development by John Gilbertson, while I was involved in spec’ing out the app, working with the customer to get signoff on functionality, and general project management.
