This font was inspired by the motorcycle gear company "REV' IT". They recently created a new type of motorcycle protection made out of a material called SeeFlex, which is very durable and can withstand impact, while maintaining a breathable and flexible feel. It was recognized for its product design and won a RedDot award in 2015. The inspiration was from the diamond like pattern that the material creates. The slits in the font attempt to mimic the pattern of the material. The title of the font "DIAMS" came from the word diamond, however only the first part of the word was used to represent the abrupt cuts in the letters.

The first sketches were inspired by the lines in the product. From there the two were combined in order to create a font that better suited the product. The shaping of the First set of letters was combined with the slits in the second set of letters, to create the sketches pictured below.
