I was contacted by Heather Hernandez who runs a web site called Freebies for Mom where she supplies her visitors with freebies she finds on the Web. She wanted a new look for her site so she began by asking me to design her a logo and spruce up her header area. I studied her site and read the remarks of some of her visitors - mostly moms, of course. Heather had supplied me with a very detailed  description of what she wanted including colors and layout suggestions. She wanted to get away from the "girly feel" she already had and step up to a more sophisticated design that focused on her and what her site is about. I turned to character design for Heather, because she wanted to keep the "gift box" from her old logo and I knew that creating a unique image would help in the branding of her and her web site. I created a mailbox character called 'Freebie' and kept to a solid single color theme (Heather preferred a dark pink). For the font I picked PT Bannana Split, because Heather had said she was fond of retro elements. Heather was extremely pleased with the final design and although she hasn't got the images installed in her web site yet you can view the screenshot here.
I also did a Twitter background design for Heather so she would have her own brand consistency with her web site. You can check out Heather's new Twitter page here.
