Artist statement Lawrence Strauss

My work is a collection of images from moments with my family and some other moments that have a significance to me. I am using the different tools and effects within photoshop to alter the images to give them more visual interest. Not only to give them more visual interest, but to utilize and learn the tools within the program at the same time. The moments that these images portray have significance to me, and I have chosen to work on them because as time goes on and my children move on to their own lives separate from me, we spend less time together. This process of making these images something other than a distant memory, keeps them current for me. It makes me happy and encourages me to make these time happen more often.

Not only is this work a way for me to make the memories last and encourage me to make more, it also improves my skills as an artist. I am learning different skills that I am sure will make me a better tattoo artist in the long run. Not only is that a goal, but I do get a great deal of satisfaction from the process. Especially at times when I question the process, sit back and watch it unfold and marvel at the end result.
