A Cinematic Score
Presented as a ten-page A3 concertina foldout, this book is both a celebration and analysis of Martin Scorsese’s film direction technique, employed on his 1990 gangster classic, Goodfellas.

Studying the opening ten minutes of the film, plot phases, character dialogue and sound tracking are carefully documented to the exact second, with each cut occurrence accompanied with its respective screen shot. A visual translation of Scorsese’s camera work, interpreting duration of shot and associated effects including panning, zooming and fading are overlaid to create a screen alternative to a more traditional musical score.

This visual analysis enables the reader to unravel the brilliance of Scorsese’s composition and begin to acknowledge why he is celebrated as one of the great Directors of the modern cinematic era.
