Brief
Home Depot’s motto has always been “More Doing.” The goal of this mobile app was to bring a suit of home improvement tools to their audience’s fingertips. In addition, Home Depot wanted to facilitate the purchasing process by allowing users to purchase items directly from the app and pick them up in store.
 
Solution
Tools are only as good as their usability so we knew that simplicity and clarity were most important. We focused on keeping the text minimal and allocated the most screen space to either the tool itself or one function at a time.
 
Process
By looking at sales figures based on department and customer feedback we chose the set of tools that would be offered. Next we focused on integrating the purchasing process with each of the tools so that customers could seamlessly move from using the tools to determine their exact purchase needs to paying for their goods before heading to the store. The last step was integrating the email system to provide customers with a receipt that could later be used in store to show proof of purchase.
 
Result
The iPhone app was listed as top three best new app in the Apple App Store, shortly after its release. Home Depot CA saw a 2% sales increase in overall online purchases throughout the region within a year of the application’s release
