KAS, 2014 - KAS is one of the newest suppliers of fresh flowers in Rotterdam. They are driven to bring flowers back into our modern day lifes. Their main goal is to supply hip and modern bouquets to young people for a fair price. As a result of an extern project at The University of Applied Sciences Rotterdam, me and my team had the opportunity to come up with a concept for their new online strategy and application. My main focus was on Experience Design and Visual Design with the crucial question being:

During our research we found out that a large amount of people (mostly men) don’t know what flowers to buy for a specific occassion. Therefore we decided to focus on the 'gift' aspect of flowers and created a friendy flower girl that helps you find the perfect bouquet for your situation.

Because KAS supports new technology and loves to see new ways for the online and physical world to intertwine, we chose to run along with the ‘gift’ theme and created another flower recommendation tool within the app. This time the bouquet was based on a picture of your choice, which you could give along with the flowers. I started sketching the idea.

Re-creating the experience of actually going to a flower store withing a mobile application seems almost impossible, because every visit is unique. I aimed to let images and photography take the leading role. I therefore created a very white and spacious layout with hints of gold and brown elements. Keeping the overall look young and expensive at the same time. 

Making every splash screen different, is almost like walking into the flower store and seeing all the new flowers of the season. Also, it fits perfectly with the distinctive character of the dynamic and artistic city of Rotterdam.

Looking back now, I see a lot of progress in my own personal design process. Working with a team of passionate and talented people showed me that multidisciplinary teams can actually work, and can actually be quite awesome.
