Il brief del progetto di laurea consisteva nella realizzazione di un libro visivo, un artefatto che potenziasse cioè il valore comunicativo del romanzo, senza alterarne il contenuto. Il soggetto studiato nel mio caso è stato “I sottterranei”
di Jack Kerouac, padre della Beat Generation.
Dopo aver rilevato le caratteristiche del testo, ho proceduto restituendo in veste grafica tali peculiarità: un’impaginazione stretta per lo stream of consciusness, disegni visionari, utilizzo di bicromia per esaltare il rapporto dicotomico tra i due protagonisti e una copertina in feltro inciso che restituisse lo scavo interiore dello scrittore.

The aim of the visual book is to amplify the meaning of a text and create a deep reading experience, based on the interaction between the book itself and the reader.
During the project I was asked to interpret Jack Kerouac’s The Subterraneans. After a syntactic and literaly analysis,
I henanced the most important features of the romance. As for the representation of the stream of consciusness style,
I used a narrow layout; regarding the dichotomic relashionship between the two main characters I played with red and blue visionary paintings.
Eventually, for the cover of the book I engraved a piece of felt, to describe Kerouac’s interior and deep thoughs.
