Planned as the next distinctive art gallery on the campus of the Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota, Florida, this 5,500 square foot addition to the Visitor’s Pavilion Atrium is a sculptural pavilion to house the museum’s glass art collection. The Kotler-Coville Glass Art Pavilion incorporates a tall, two-story art gallery, an entry atrium, and historic Asolo theater support spaces, including a dance rehearsal studio, ticketing, and dressing rooms. The building’s plan form is largely dictated by the location of the existing Visitor’s Pavilion Atrium as well as an adjacent historic gatehouse entry structure. Inspiration for the project is derived from the sculptural interplay of the movement air and water makes to sand, a principle ingredient in the glass-making process. This inspiration is portrayed on the prominent eastern facade wall, helping to control and filter morning sunlight entering the art gallery space. Read Less
