BRIEF: In this project we were required to create an innovative packaging design for stationery

SOLUTION: I decided to create a stationery kit that contained all of the basic statiinery item, this was aimed at underpriviledged children in primary schools. The packaging was made from cheap cardboard to make it more affordable and was laminated to protect it from any damage for eg. for children who have to walk to school.
I chose an existing stationery brand, STAEDTLER and used the steadtler colours for the packaging. I chose to make one set packaging with two colour variations. The packaging came in either red or blue, all the elements featured on the packaging were in the steadtler gold colour.
Since the packaging was aimed at young children, I wanted to use a more playful and clean font for the type so that legibility would not be a problem.
I went through various designs for the packaging and had many failures, from a packing that opened out flat to one that contained individual holders. Finally I decided on having two seperate packaging. The main case would be in the shape of a briefcase while an extra box with a divided area for each piece of stationery would be put inside the case (as a sort of pencil case).
The final element that I created was a sketchy drawing of little children, these children were not specific to any race or culture and consisted of both genders. This element was put onto all the packaging pieces.
Along with the packaging I created a sleeve that contained the basic information about the packaging. This sleeve was also meant to make sure that the packaging was not opened while on shelves in stores and to unify both the different coloured packs.
The packs were priced very low so that it could be more affordable to poorer families. To increase the chances of the packs getting to all the underpriveledged children, I created a scheme were everytime a pack was bought, one pack would be donated to an underpriveledged child. The sleeves on the pack contained a list of schoools that the packs were being donated to so that people could see how the packs were being used.
The idea was to create a pack that could be multifunctional, once the inner case was removed, the bag could be used to store anything else for the child.
