First in a series of illustrations about neighborhoods of Madrid.
Malasaña es el barrio más alternativo, cultural y Hipster de la capital. Sus calles están llenas de tiendas de segunda mano, pastelerías de diseño, bares con libros y ese tipo de negocios.
Malasaña is the alternative, cultural and hipster neighborhood of the capital. Its streetsare full of thrift stores, design bakeries, bars with books and such businesses.
Comienzo por tomar cientos de fotografías del barrio, de sus edificios, sus negocios y sus detalles así como apuntes y esbozos de sus pobladores. Después monto un collage con photoshop, bastante tosco, suficiente para que me sirva de referencia, y lo imprimo.
Start by taking hundreds of photographs of the neighborhood, their buildings, their businesses and their details, notes and sketches of its inhabitants. After that I maka a collage with photoshop, rather crude, enough to serve me as a reference, and print it.
A continuación realizo el dibujo a tinta basándome en el collage.
Then I perform ink drawing based on the collage.
Comienzo entonces a dar el color usando acuarela, lápices de colores, rotuladores e incluso acrílico.
Then start to color using watercolor, crayons, markers and even acrylic.
Y este es el resultado final.
