Movement patterns

Observing the movement patterns and dynamics at the mineral sources in the heart of Sofia, Bulgaria.

We sat around the sources for several hours over the course of five days, to look into movement patterns in relation to architectural structures.

Our mission was to turn our investigations into a communal exhibition which will visualise the relation of the different movements around the water.

My concept started with raw visualizations of the movements in that area and the impact that water has over everyone who gets in touch with it.

From the recordings of the patterns, sketches and words, we refined personal viewpoints into diverse projects.

I turned my observations into typographic visualizations by creating a few posters. They served as a base for my further work.

I was impressed by the delicate appearance and movement of the birds around the sources. I followed a few pigeons and mapped their movements.

Than I had to move from purely digital (my comfort zone) to more physical representation of the pigeon's movements and apply the typeface which arouse from them on a physical surface, which will interact with people’s senses.

I chose the floor and made a grid to pivot my typographic experiment.

I needed a color which will most accurately match my feelings about the water.

For the exhibition we created a booklet to reflect the process we walked though collectively, and show the different routes everyone of us took.

People were only allowed to enter the exhibition area barefooted, and thus become a special part of the installations.

Thank you!
