"The Wood of Sorrow" memorial

The concept of a memorial complex in honour of victims of political repressions is developed for GULAG Museum competition, undertaken in spring  2015, in Moscow, Russia.

Vertical pillars from corten with engraved titles of places of mass executions and concentration camps of "archipelag GULAG" and existent furtrees form an image of semi-disforested land, a metaphore of destinies of people who had suffered from political terror. The central point in this composition is the Memory Chapel, a triangular corten pavilion, hiding a pond and two concrete walls depicticting together a symbol of a river of remembrance, tears of martyrs and their neighbours, breaking the locks of oblivion and neglect. Inside of the chapel, multimedia installation narrates stories of ordinary people, which lives were grinded by mass repressions.
