Ball Stairway and Sorting Mechanism

OBJECTIVE:
 
To design and fabricate, a low cost, dynamically stable Ball stairway system having ability to lift the balls upto the required altitude and then segregate them as per the needs.

5. Weight Based Gating System

1. Stairway System
Components:
·         Fixed Staircase.
·         Moving Staircase.
·         Side Guides for vertical movement.
·         Base Plate.

Fixed Staircase: Below is the image of the component ‘Fixed Staircase’. Its role is provide a fixed platform on which the ‘moving staircase’ will collect and drop the ball so as to provide a pathway to lift the ball up to the highest stair. It will rest over a block so as to achieve a specific height to run the system properly and that exact specific height will be decided after having few trials. There are two types of taper portion in this component. One is in the direction along the staircase itself and second is exactly in its perpendicular direction.

Moving Stairway: Below is the image of the component ‘Moving Staircase’. This staircase is allowed to move in vertical direction only. It is constrained in such a way with the help of side guides. The up-down movement of the component is achieved by cam mechanism. There is slot given at the bottom of component that can fit into the cam. The length of the slot is kept to the lift required.
