Part 1: Brainstorming

Students are divided into groups based on the Digital Media Project they want to do.

The different Digital Media Projects we can do were:

We are a group that is doing animation because all of us are interested in making one. We have a basic idea of what our animation will be about, and the characters that will be in it.

The Different Eras of Animation

Animation before film:

The Silent Era:

Animations that contain music but not speech.

A period in the history of U.S. animation that began with the advent of soundcartoons in 1928.

Key Individuals

Walt Disney:

The most important figure in the 20th century animation industry. he created Oswald Rabbit AND Mickey Mouse, amongst many other characters. Walt obtained 7 Emmy Awards, 59 Academy Award nominations, 22 wins and 4 honorary Academy Awards during his course in animation.

Chuck Jones:

The Creator of classic characters including The Road Runner, Wile E. Coyote, Pepe LePew, Michigan J. Frog, Marvin Martian. He also contributed into the development of characters such as Daffy Duck, Elmer Fudd and Bugs Bunny. Chuck even helped direct and animate the Dr. Seuss classic "How the Grinch Stole Christmas."

Tex Avery:

Tex is one of the godfathers of animation. He was responsible for the cartoon style of the '40s that evolved the industry. Tex, Avery created the characters Droopy, Screwy Squirrel and Red Hot Riding Hood, and directed the first animations of Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny.

Advancements in Technology

Phenakistoscope:

The phenakistoscope was an early animation device that used the persistence of vision principle to create an illusion of motion. I tused a spinning disc attached to a handle. Around the disc's was a series of drawings showing parts of the animation, and cut through it was a series of equally spaced radial slits.

Multiplane Camera:

The multiplane camera is a special motion picture camera used in animation that moves a number of pieces of artwork past the camera at various speeds and at various distances from one another, creating a three-dimensional effect.

Computer Animation:

Computer animation is the process used for generating animated images by the use of computer graphics.
