My city, Venice, is very special, you could say that there are actually two cities. There is the one of mass tourism, of crowded streets, the city of St Mark's Square, of 200 euro gondola rides and expensive restaurants... and then there is the one I know. Far from the suffocating reality of tourism, which every year counts 8 million 521 thousand visitors and on which the city's economy depends, among the callette, hidden campielli, clubs and osterie, the Venetians have created a small niche, a city within the city.
La mia città, Venezia, è molto particolare, infatti si può dire che esistano in realtà due città. Esiste la Venezia del turismo di massa, delle strade affollate, la Venezia di piazza San Marco, delle corse in gondola da 200 euro e dei ristoranti costosi...e poi esiste quella che conosco io. Lontano dalla soffocante realtà del turismo, che ogni anno conta 8 milioni 521 mila presenze e da cui l'economia della città dipende, tra callette, campielli nascosti, locali e osterie, i veneziani si sono creati una piccola nicchia, una città dentro la città.
My project is designed to reveal a little of this city to travellers, those who are fed up with the usual tourist destinations, who want to discover the city through the eyes of those who really live it.
Il mio progetto è pensato per svelare un po di questa città ai viaggiatori, quelli stufi delle solite mete turistiche, quelli che vogliono scoprire la città attraverso gli occhi di chi davvero la vive.
That's why I thought of building an iPad application to help travellers, and especially young people, discover the city, advising on the lesser-known and more interesting places. It is a journey through taverns, bars, art galleries, and typical food and drinks recipes to be tasted and reproduced with the help of photos and explanatory animations.
Per questo ho pensato di costruire un'applicazione per ipad che aiuti il viaggiatore e soprattutto i giovani, a scoprire la città, dando consigli sui luoghi meno conosciuti e più interessanti. E' un percorso tra osterie, locali, gallerie d'arte ricette tipiche di cibi e bevande da assaggiare e da provare ad emulare con l'aiuto delle animazioni esplicative e sensazioni della città.

Ho scelto di dare all'app uno stile innovativo, moderno ed essenziale, che rispecchi quindi la nuova immagine che voglio dare alla mia città. Non solo una città ricca di storia, ma una città che esiste qui ed ora….
It therefore also reflects the contents, which deviate from the official itineraries, providing alternative, contemporary solutions that represent the lifestyle of young Venetians.
Rispecchia quindi anche i contenuti, che si allontanano dagli itinerari ufficiali, dando soluzioni alternative, contemporanee e che rappresentano lo stile di vita dei giovani veneziani.
Being a relatively new tool (in 2013), I thought I would help the less experienced with a two-page explanation of how to navigate the app and the meaning of the icons I have drawn.
Essendo uno strumento relativamente nuovo ho pensato di aiutare i meno esperti con con due pagine di spiegazione sulla navigazione dell'app e sul significato delle icone che ho disegnato.
The application is organised in such a way as to suggest a route that allows you to discover the city more authentically, through the pace of life of its residents. It, therefore, ranges from daytime, evening and night and the relevant points of interest. In addition, it is structured to offer different content horizontally and vertically, which makes it lighter and more dynamic.
L'applicazione è organizzata in modo tale da suggerire un percorso che permetta di scoprire veramente la città, attraverso i ritmi di vita dei residenti. Si spazia quindi tra il giorno, la sera e la notte e i relativi punti di interesse. Inoltre è strutturata per offrire contenuti diversi in orizzontale e in verticale, il che la rende più leggera e più dinamica.
So I have tried to convey at least some of those sensations that make Venice such a special city. To live the city through the eyes and ears of the residents, to seek out these experiences. I believe this is the highest sense of the concept of travel.
Ho cercato quindi di trasmettere almeno alcune di quelle sensazioni che rendono Venezia una città cosi particolare. Vivere la città attraverso gli occhi e le orecchie dei residenti, ricercare queste esperienze. Credo che questo sia il senso più alto del concetto di viaggio.
