Faces with stories behind them

Returned from war

This is a portrait of my uncle who was a soldier at the War in Eastern Ukraine (fighting on the side of regular ukrainian troups). I painted him in that day when he was returned home. Despite the fact that the danger was left behind and finally he had seen his family, deep in his thoughts he was still on the battlefield.

Oil on canvas, 50x50cm
Huzul (a man of the mountains)
This is a portrait of en old man who belongs to the ethno-cultural group who for centuries have inhabited the Carpathian mountains in Ukraine.

Huzulka (an old woman with a pipe)
An old woman with a pipe represents typically a member of the orthodox culture of the ethnic group of "Huzul" who have inhabited the Carpathian Mountains in Ukraine. A common characteristic of the old generation of women in the mountains is a strong feministbehaviour.

A woman in the circlet of flowers
Lesya Ukrainka was one of Ukraine's best-known female writer in Ukrainian literature. Her ambiguous personality exhibited masculine traits and behavior combined with the female creative nature. She also was a political and feminist activist.
