Had the pleasure of creating a vector tribute to President Barack Obama for the cover of this month's issue of Foreign Affairs Magazine. The magazine was fond of my vector pop-deco style and commissioned me to play.
The magazine wanted to lead with a cover story about President Obama's Foreign policy and his legacy- they decided it was best to try and leverage him as the mythical Atlas with the world on his back, aged, frustrated and still trudging forward.

Here's the start to finish of this project created with imac + Adobe Illustrator + Wacom Intuos.

Above : Round 1- Delivered 3 vector sketches-
Left- wanted to show the struggles of balancing world policy. Middle: A traditional take on the Atlas pose. Right: more stylized version of the middle sketch but this time with a clever iconic twist -utilizing the peace symbol as straps to a back pack.

I then started to bring my pop stylized elements into the composition. Although- I was holding back because of my preceieved notion of Foreign Affairs brand personality and their astute audience. Thought it best if I contained my " Wild Style" ...

Above: Round 3- I WAS WRONG- they want the WILD STYLE.
So I gave it to them in full blast.
Above: Round 4- THEY COULDN'T HANDLE THE WILD STYLE.
and preferred a more softer approach and color shift leading to the final....
