During the production of the official video for Lovett's Eye of the Storm directed by Christopher Alender, from the album, Highway Collection, the team of Oddball Animation was creating a quite interesting steampunk film project, the on-set visual effects consultant contacted me to be part of the production team and help them create one of the main characters of the short film, the steampunk airship.
My task was to fallow some rough sketches and reference material to give life to the flying machine. After some research and rough model versions I started to give shape to the ship, until reach the final version presented as the main render shown here. The next step was to add some life to the engines and apply some physics to some parts in order to make it look flying and interacting with the stormy environment; exploring many real life classic ships, and documenting my self with some flying rustic machines, I ended up adding some effects and make the machine believable and ready to it's flight to the eye of the storm.
Thanks to the incredible post-production and visual effects artists team work, the result has been an amazing short film that please the eye and complement the song.
