New Dance and Music Centre, Hauge, Netherlands, 2010 The design developed instinctively from the urban dynamics of its city centre location, producing a structure defined by subtle volumetric gestures that invites visitors to enter via a ground-level plaza. In sharp contrast with conventional rectangular geometry, the design proposes a fluid field of horizontal louvres, which seem to move when graced by light or shade - a unique characteristic affording a playfulness to the facade - articulating public circulation through foyers and sculpted inner atrium providing tantalizing gilimpses onto inner spaces. Unfortunately this international competition has been abandoned. Six firms, Zaha Hadid Architects, Denton Corker Marshall, Grimshaw Architects, Wilkinson Eyre, Canadidan firm Petroff Partnership and French architect Marc Mimram who was working with the Tianjin Urban Planning & Design Institute, were invited to draw up designs for the planned 400m bridge. A short list of four was later selected - Denton Corker Marshall, Zaha Hadid, Grimshaw and PPA. Further Info: http://www.zaha-hadid.com Read Less
