“Enajuri” DESIGN COLLECTION

ENAJURI
Creating a horizon where two things overlap exhibits the idea of ethinicity meeiting edge.
The following is an Avant Garde collection inspired by the Assamese traditional "jaapi"  weave and transforming them into three dimensional structures using handloom fabrics... Jaapi is an assamese variation of a hat which is also used a show peice. It is colorful and decorated with paper and sequins.
Taking inspiration from the weave pattern and all the geometric shapes seen in the process of making the jaapi, I have created a collection of seperates.
Theme Board
Following the pattern of the jaapi weave where dried tokou leaves are inserted in between a hard cane structure to form this compact tesselated form, I used sequins in between raw silk and a lighter transparent kota doria to create a similar visual effect. Also using the method of paper folding, I used toss muga (a paper like silk) to create origami structures to give a 3D look.
