Atelier Populaire Atlas

May 1968 was a month that France – and the world – had never experienced before. Outraged by the French political system, ruled at the moment by Charles de Gaulle, workers and students unite to give a voice to their ideals. Together, they organize the biggest riot France had ever seen.
Students from the École des Beaux-Arts and the École Nationale Superiéure des Arts Décoratifs create the Atelier Populaire where artists, intellectuals and workers join to create images and slogans. The hundreds of posters created serve as the main weapon of revolution and propaganda of the revolution.
Based on an historical contextualization, this atlas proposes a cultural immersion in that time. The published testimonies and thoughts unveil the origins, intentions, means and methods of the Atelier Populaire, its impact on the French and worldwide political system and its unquestionable contribution to the history of art and graphic design. 2015
