Donation Opportunities at the Michigan Humane Society

A board member of the Michigan School of Professional Psychology, Margaret Ann Dimond, PhD, also maintains responsibilities as a researcher and assistant professor of graduate studies at Michigan State University. An avid supporter of animal welfare, Dr. Margaret Ann Dimond contributes to the Michigan Humane Society.

Founded in 1877, the Michigan Humane Society (MHS) was the first animal rescue association to exist in the state. It has since become Michigan’s largest center for animal welfare, housing thousands of animals per year. In addition to its generous volunteers, MHS relies on community donations to continue serving animals in need. There are several different ways in which you can support MHS aside from monetary contributions.

Provide Easter Eggs for Cats
If you have unwanted plastic Easter eggs from the holidays, you can give them to MHS to provide entertainment to the felines in its care. The organization fills the eggs with food, giving the cats a treat while providing stimulation and exercise.

Give Unwanted Electronics
You can donate old electronics, such as mobile phones, laptops, and cables, to MHS partner Tech Karma, which will recycle the devices and donate the profits to the society. Donated materials do not need to work and are cleaned prior to recycling.

Create Catnip-Filled Mice
You can help the cats at MHS by making and donating catnip-filled mice toys. They are easy to make and require only a few materials, which include Mylar, fabric, and catnip. These toys provide excitement and exercise to facilitate good health in the shelter cats.
