The body is but a shell that our consciousness resides in. But within this shell there are so many intricacies and complexities that most people are not fully aware of. At a time when medical science was only just developing, both scientists and artists were intrigued by the human body for both medical and aesthetic reasons. By and large, the understanding of the human body and its anatomy was achieved through the dissections of cadavers. From Da Vinci to the illustrator of this collection’s main inspiration, Jacques-Fabien Gautier D’Agoty, it is evident that the dissected human body is, through these illustrations, an object of visceral beauty, elegant and mysterious.

However, the dialogue between mind and body must not be forgotten. The body receives stimuli, the mind interprets it and projects its consciousness upon it, transforming it into whatever it wills. As such, the body and mind works together to create our reality. But What is real and what is not? Do I see as I feel?

This collection takes inspiration from the body and samples all its textures, paying particular attention to musculature and bone structure. In addition, it also draws upon the mysterious nature of both the body’s structures and the way our minds work. Shapes and structures are explored through the textures created in machine knitting, layering of pieces, and through the combination of sheer and opaque fabrics. In this collection, the silhouette reflects not the external person, instead, it reflects what is inside, taking inspiration from the body’s anatomy to create sculptural pieces that defines us as human.
