MCAA Highlights Significant Growth in Construction

Charles (Chuck) Scroggs leverages his expertise in business leadership to serve as the president of Southwest Scaffolding and C and D Commercial Services in the Rockwall County, Texas, city of Rowlett. As the president of C and D Commercial Masonry, also based in Rockwall County, Texas, Chuck Scroggs maintains a membership with the Masonry Contractors Association of America (MCAA).

The MCAA recently publicized data from the Associated General Contractors of America showing that June 2015 yielded the greatest year-over-year increase in construction spending since 2006. According to the organization, spending in the construction industry has increased significantly over the past year in all major areas, including residential, private nonresidential, and public. The analysis indicated that construction spending was 12 percent higher in June 2015 than in June 2014, with June 2015 construction spending totaling more than $1 trillion at a seasonally adjusted yearly rate.

From the data, it appears that a number of private categories are growing particularly quickly, but experts caution that growth could be stifled by skilled worker shortages. The association emphasizes that the economy could be negatively impacted if construction companies can’t find enough qualified workers to meet the rising demand for work.
