YangcuPrinter: a cross-stitch scheme generator

YangcuPrinter is the cross-stitch scheme generator that I have made for my thesis project at Politecnico di Milano. This is one of my personal extensions of the group project Yangcu, the branding of the stateless nation of degar people. Degar have a very rich textile tradition, so we get inspired by them fabrics.

YangcuPrinter lets the users choose them Yangcu patterns and print them in a cross-stitch scheme form. I developed the application in Processing and for the GUI I use the controlP5 open source library. I designed also the wood case, that I designed with Rhino and made with a laser cutter. The whole installation includes a tablet computer for input and elaboration, and a little thermal printer.

This is a generative design tool, not just because everyone can choose his pattern, but also because anyone can do what he/she wants with his/her scheme, remaining coherent with the Yangcu visual identity.

Shown below one possible output: a decorated Yangcu birdhouse!

Thank you for watching!  :)
