ON TYPOGRAPHY: ODE TO TYPOGRAPHY AND THE CRYSTAL GOBLET, OR PRINTING SHOULD BE INVISIBLE

This is a pop up book about one poem: Ode to Typography, by Paul Neruda in 1964, and one prose: The Crystal Goblet, by Beatrice Warde in 1955. The two of them have similar yet different ideas about typography. The former one emotionally worships the beauty of type, and the latter one metaphorizes typography into a crystal goblet to discuss its function and purpose in a rational way. The two works are woven together in this book in a three dimensional way, thus enabling the reader to create new meanings when reading them. Different layout/ compositions are made to accommodate each verse, giving it full visualization. Gillsans and Grotesque are chosen to be the fonts of the two works, and modernism and constructivism suits the style.
