D&AD PANTONE- Tonypandy, Watercolour Art Work.

Tonypandy is an old Town situated in the heart of the Welsh Valleys;
Tonypandy prides itself on it's mining herritage and friendly community.

This series of watercolour based art work was created by myself in order to advertise a possible tunnel that was predicted to be re-opening in the Welsh Valleys. The tunnel once used to transport coal has the potential of becoming a cycle track to be used by the community, this would be amazing for Tonypandy and the neghbouring Towns as it would bring many jobs back into the valleys. The tunnel leads from the Welsh Valleys all the way down to Swansea bay.
The paintings that I created resemble the bricks of the tunnel, the inconsistent colour represents the fact the tunnel isn't perfect in its natural state just yet, the gaps show that there is something missing and the potential for something new to happen is always welcomed.

I digitalised the original watercolour paintings in order to create the following advertisment templates...
In the digital stage I played arround with the 'tripple T' aspect of the project, The Tonypandy Tunnel. This was a good idea as it allowed me to work with aliteration that was also symetrical. I was happy with the end results and the contrast of colour between the bright cyan/ royal blue and black.

I picked blue to represent my hometown of Tonypandy because I didn't want to go for the obvious 'green' because of the mountains or 'black' because of the coal. I feel like the blue worked well, not only does blue have connotations of the sky and sea but the tunnel leads to Swansea, Swansea of course being famous for it's stunning coastline and various beaches.

Throughout this project the colour blue acted as a metaphor for something better... a place of peace, it acted as a gleam of hope for the community and the prospect for something better to come.
A light at the end of the tunnel.
