Wavelets

For this experiment a speaker was connected to a signal generator, and its membrane was filled with water. Due to the symmetrical shape of the speaker and the nature of clear sound, stationary waves formed at certain frequencies, observable only on the surface of the fluid. This surface texture was then projected on a piece of photographic paper with the help of a line laser, thus transforming the three-dimensional waves into two dimensions. Owing to the use of Powell lens in front of the laser emitter, the produced light rays expand in practically one dimension only, hence the resulting image is sharp, and the camera can be omitted from the process. The recorded picture is a direct consequence of the sound waves’ properties.
