We have to remember the history of wars. We have to remember the days people living and fighting in the trenches, for their family, for their future, for us. "A Shot is Fired!" is the design we did for the WWI memorial place competition in Washington. We were inspired by the trenches, where people came from different place fighting together. We want to rebuild the war trench, and transform them into open spaces and gallery places where people can walk through.  When they see the trench, they see the memories of the war and the unforgetable scars lying on the ground. The scars remind everyone, it costs blood and tears to finally have our happy life today, and we need to be grateful.
There are two kinds of trenches. One is the zigzag communication trench. Soldiers moved fast in those pathes. People built corners to block their enemies' sights and fire. Another one if the fire trench in front of the no man's land. Soldiers stood on the fire steps and shot.
We kept the spatial forms of the communication trench and fire trench, but gave them new functions. The communication trench would still be fast walking path torward the center of the plaza, while the fire trench was developed into a mode peaceful place where people can sit and have a rest.
