The idea of this was to make the photograph look quite dark and gritty, and it was lit in a fairly low key and oblique manner to get lots of shadows. We wanted to keep the red key colours of the tools and jacket and move the rest of the image into a more desaturated space.

 

I used several techniques to make a pseudo HDR of the image to accentuate the texture and contrast of the image added some tonal shading to increase the highlights on the edges and contours of the jacket and face. I used a selection of custom brushes to add smoke and debris to the background and coming from the tools.
