Nottingham Cycle Superhighway

Nottingham City Council is investing in and working up plans to improve and expand the City’s cycle facilities, to provide a joined up network of cycle corridors throughout the City. These plans are highlighted within the City’s Cycle Action Plan. The first phase of the project will see the introduction of branded north – south and east – west cross city routes. The planned improvements formed a key element of Nottingham’s Cycle City Ambition bid (a major scheme bid for funding towards cycle infrastructure) which has been approved and allocated £6.1 million of funding. The money will be available for delivery over two years from April 2015. £3 million of this funding has been allocated for 2015/16 and this is a significant scheme within the 2015/16 programme.
Engineers at the sustainable transport organisation Sustrans were asked to look at the route and provide concept designs, working to the latest cycle design standards as outlined in the new Transport for London design guidance. These designs have now been passed to Nottingham City Council to take the detailed design and construction forward in 2015/16.
The objective of the illustration work was to produce an architectural 3D model in SketchUp showing the Sustrans design concepts of the cycle superhighway along Castle Boulevard, Nottingham towards Abbey Bridge. Once the model was complete, other views of the area were then used for public consultation. The benefit with 3D modelling is that the client is in total control over the position of the camera so any view can be exported from the model to any format as shown
