2012 MLK Celebration Campaign
Create a brand for the 2012 MLK Celebration for Clemson University
I began this project by meeting with the client, who was the chairman of the Martin Luther King Committee
at Clemson University. After meeting with him, I found out the theme for the 2012 Celebration, and saw that in previous years the design mostly consisted of just text with one image of King. He expressed to me that he wanted a campaign that was different, but still focused first on King. The theme for the 2012 Celebration was “Dedicated to the Dream”, and the speaker was the founder of the King Foundation responsible for the recent construction of the King Memorial in the National Mall in Washington, DC. I researched both the monument and speaker, and began my design there. Since the celebration was centered around the memorial, I kept that as the central focus for the design. After finding the meaning behind the monument and all of the various significant elements in it, I artistically rendered the rest of it behind the main image of King. I then arranged the
text at the top, making sure that it had the proper hierarchy throughout. After completing the design, I
then applied it to various touchpoints including a poster, flyer, banner, newspaper ad, as well as various
online versions.
