Jumper Day
Sometimes tools used to create photorealistic renderings are used to make something entirely different.
Right before the holidays of 2014 we were tasked to recreate the look of a knitted Christmas sweater to serve as the base for the design of a poster for a charity campaign.
The goal was to build a digital fabric that feels warm, fuzzy, and can handle all the different design elements with hard edges that the guys from the 2D department would throw at it. To tackle the job we modeled a knitted fabric entirely in 3D and upon that rendering crafted a special compositing scrip that could load the flat 2D design data and output a result with a 3D twist.
The resulting rig handled design changes swiftly and supported the graphic design department of our client with fast turnaround times.

The work was featured all around London and the campaign for Save the children was a success.
