Dia De Los Quemadures - Burning Man 3403

For Burning Man 2015, Eridu Society adopted a 'Carnival of Space and Time' theme (riffing on the even'ts Carnival Of Mirrors Theme).  The camp fancies itself as a time-traveling explorer's club, and the idea was that they had traveled into the future and brought back art theme posters from 8 different events.

The full-sized poster measures 36" x 48" at 300dpi, and are installed in wall unit displays on either side of the camp's Ziggurati installation.
This piece was driven by both a desire to mash up the idea of Burning Man and Dia De Los Muertos, and a desire to do something that looked like cut paper.  As I was working on designing and rendering the dozens of different paper textures for the piece, I did some reading up on Day Of The Dead and found that it actually used to be a late summer festival!  According to the internet, it used to last weeks and take place in late summer, but was then moved to the start of November by missionaries who wanted to tie the ‘heathen’ celebration to All Saints Day.  I think there are some wonderful similarities between the two events, and we’re both really happy with how this piece turned out.
