For this project we were tasked with making a book that highlighted Scottish Heritage. I chose to focus my book on my hometown of Falkirk and the canal industry it encompasses.
The final book focuses on the industrial Falkirk Wheel and the innovation of it, using the interesting shapes and mechanism to influence the books design.
Throughout the book I added little details to reflect the industrial feel of the wheel. My initial idea was to add a grided pattern to some pages so that it would reflect the architectural design, representing a blueprint in design. Other details such as cogs, gears and measurements were also added to complete the layouts.
We were also to include a fold out page, for this I decided to create a timeline of the construction of the canals all the way up to the Falkirk Wheel being built. I included original images taken at the time of the construction itself. Reflecting on the theme used throughout the book I wanted the finished timeline to ressemble that of a blueprint.
