The Los Angeles Lakers are an American professional basketball team based in Los Angeles, California, that competes in the National Basketball Association (NBA). With teams like Atlanta Hawks, Los Angeles Clippers, Milwaukee Bucks, Washington Wizards and Toronto Raptors updated their logos in the past few months, I decided to work on an update version for the Lakers.
The current Lakers logo hasn't changed much since the 1960/1961 season. Although the logo is very classic and well recognized, I still think an update is necessary.
The new logos I designed include some iconic elements that represent the city of Los Angeles. The shape of the primary logo is inspired by the Lakers championship banners. It also includes a star from the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and a leaf from a palm tree. I also created all the letters in the logo, with inspiration from the iconic Hollywood sign. The secondary logo is simply a star and a basketball combined, while the inside lines shape the letters LA.
