For this project we were tasked with creating two film posters centering around a chosen film director. I chose to focus my posters on the renowned French film director, Eric Rohmer. Throughout his vast filmography, Rohmer highlights the perfect landscapes of France, with its luscious of greens and blues and sleek fashion sense, something I wanted to express within my posters.

For the first poster we had to create a design using solely typography and try to express the feelings and emotions of the films through the style, placing and colour.
For the final poster I wanted to use a minimalist design that conveys the message of Rohmer's films and the values of France on equal measure. Rohmer is quintessentially "French" and and he makes France almost seem like a character in his films.
The poster is inspired by the way the French percieve themselves in culture. I used a hand drawn font against the rigid rules of text to show how France is filled with natural elegance and beauty in the form of its landscapes, but the pressure that they put on themselves to be perfect is in fact holding the natural beauty back. The final choice of colours is to reflect the idea of how Rohmer associates ‘women with red” and men with “conservative blue”. The woman represents the elegance with men holding them back.

For this poster we had to create a design using and image found in books coupled with typography to reflect the image chosen for the poster.
For this poster I wanted to use an image of France's scenery which Rohmer captures so beautifully in his films.
This poster uses an image of a French lake which Rohmer features in many of his films. The image also shows a couple sitting sun bathing, (many of Rohmer’s films showed people doing mundane, everyday things and make them the entire focus of the film). I added a border to this poster to make it look a bit like a polaroid image. The use of the duotone squares helps to add interest to the page as well as highlighting key areas of the poster.
