Marie Antoinette Portrait

Ask for the head to be cut! That was the idea for the slogan of the campaign for a well known cheese. It’s a word game. The word for a wheel (of cheese) in Greek language is a head (of cheese).

The advertising agency wanted to get the rights for the use of some of the portraits of Queen Marie Antoinette. For some reason unknown to me, it could not have been obtained, so they called me up to make a new one from scratch. When I told them that the cost for oil on canvas would be 3 times bigger, and that I’d need much more time, the choice for the digital solution was decided. It was a rush job, with a tight deadline!
This is my initial pencil sketch (above). They asked me for closer likeness, giving me these portraits of Antoinette, pointing to the top left  image here (down)
Here are the steps in sketch, and when it was approved, I started adding color.
If I remember well this was done in Painter, and I usually work using the same steps as if I was to paint on canvas.
This is the final result. For reasons unknown to me, the client decided not to use it. Fortunately for me, the signed  kill fee was good, I did get paid, but I did not have the pleasure of seeing the billboards with this work of mine…
