In August 2014, the Silver Airways Green Team launched an awareness initiative on the beaches of South Florida to pick up trash and educate visitors about the importance of keeping the seascape clean. Taking part in the city’s new Keep Hollywood Beautiful Beach Sweep program, the team took steps to connect with community members and inform them of the impact on indigenous fish, sea turtles, and other marine life.
The city of Hollywood invites any individuals or group to join in on the Beach Sweeps, which occur on the second Saturday of every month. The ongoing initiative complements the city’s long-term anti-litter campaign, which continues to rehabilitate the surrounding beach by removing incoming trash from the ocean and targeting beach litterers with a $500 fine.
