Navarasa means Nine Emotions in which Nava signifies nine and Rasa signifies Emotions. The nine emotions included in Navarasa are Shringara (love/beauty), Hasya(laughter), Karuna (sorrow), Raudra (anger), Veera ( heroism/courage), Bhayanaka (terror/fear), Bibhatsya (disgust), Adbutha (surprise/wonder), and Shantha (peace or tranquility). These are the emotions that humans show according to the situations.
I chose to create moving images not using traditional Indian ethnic imagery and decided to move away from natya navarasa to expressionism using western influence which is at this stage is experienced by
the art and design fraternity of this generation.
The concept for these gif animations is inspired by Spanish artist and illustrator Isabel Chiara.Blending popular culture, absurdity and classical aesthetics,Chiara creates unique animations that captivate your attention by telling a story.
I have used black and white portraits of celebrities with respective colour tints which provide aesthetics, popular emoticons for every rasa/mood so that today's generation relates to the rasas and various elements that help describe each rasa/emotion.The tree of life symbol denotes life and hence the various emotions in a human's life.
