Bespoke Cupboards - East Lothian

This was a project in Haddington. The customer wanted cupboards installed on a wall with a sloping ceilling above.
It was a very challenging design as this was an old property and the floor was no where near level, also, no walls were at right angles to each other.

I designed the cupboards on Google Sketchup first of all and once the customer had reviewed the renders, along with the invoice the work took place in the spring of 2015.

Below are a few renders of the cupboards from sketchup.
The cupboards needed to be fitted level, so the first thing that had to be made in the house was a level base for them to sit on. This was made from 2 by inch and 2 by 2 timbers, and then MDF was secured to the top.
Once the level base was constructed, more precise measurements were taken and then manufacturing of the cupboards themselves began.

There were 8 cabinets in total, which were all manufactured individualy off site, made completely out of 18mm mdf. These cabinets were then installed on the level base, secured to each other, and to the base itself.
Once the cabients were installed and the customer was happy, the outside edge finishings were installed. This was a particulary dificult job as the roof was very uneven.
At this point the finishings around the outside were filled and sanded.

Manufacturing of the doors then began, again, off site.

The doors were made out of two pieces of 9mm MDF which were glued together, this helped achieve the panel effect.

Once the doors were manufactured, they were hung, customer supplied doorknobs were fitted and everything was ready for painting.
