This design was created as a 'call-to-action' campaign, bringing attention to the staggeringly high rates of gun violence within Chicago.  The tombstone (a symbol of death) was used to represent the state itself, through the use of the cities iconic 4 stars (featured on the Chicago city flag.) Additionally, the outline of Illinois is represented as the shadow of the tombstone, with a 'bleeding effect' to symbolize how the high mortality rates are hurting the entire state.
