Winslow Street Smarts
Helping small shop owners during big construction project
Winslow Way—the center of Bainbridge Island community, culture and commerce—was about to be torn up. Fixing failing utilities required the complete reconstruction of the street and sidewalks from storefront to storefront. To help the merchants stay in business when access to their shops was severely compromised, we amplified a nascent 'Buy Local' campaign with strategic marketing during the summer tourist season and again during the holidays: folk art, road signs, video displays, counter cards, banners, a hyper-local blog, a street-side mural, scavenger hunts, construction concierges and paid advertisements in the local newspaper.
